Horse Sitting

 

Overview

Just Equus provide a professional, experienced, and reliable horse sitting service, taking full care of your horse(s) whilst you are away, whether it be on holiday, away on business or delayed at work. Uniquely, Just Equus have experience in both natural horsemanship and other traditional approaches, allowing your horse(s) to be handled in a consistent way.

Bookings of any length of cover are taken typically from a half day to three months. The service can be fully tailored to ensure that the normal routine of your horse is maintained. You can choose from the standard/holiday packages or simply pick the services you require from the list of individual services.

An update service is also provided if required, giving you peace of mind.

Prior to taking any booking, please contact me for an initial discussion. Later, a face to face meeting will be held which is free of charge and with no obligation. The meeting will allow you to meet the horse sitter, discuss your needs and requirements and a bespoke package of care to be designed.  It also allows you to ask any questions about the service giving you the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether to use the service.

If you decide that you would like to go ahead with the horse sitting service a booking form will then need to be completed. The form details the services to be provided and any special instructions and also includes details of emergency contacts, for instance your veterinary surgeon and farrier. 

In addition, Just Equus can provide peace of mind to guard against unexpected issues that could arise, for instance delayed return holiday flights.  In these cases, at the end of the agreed horse sitting period, your horse(s) will continue to be cared for, until you have made contact to confirm that the horse sitting services are no longer required. This extended sitting period would be charged for at a Full Day Care rate per additional part day.

At the end of the horse sitting period, a handover will usually be held by telephone, detailing all care provided and any issues that arose during the horse sitting period.

 Standard Care Packages

  • Full Day Care (Two visits per day) -This package includes turn out, muck out, field skipping (maximum 30 minutes per horse), water, hay, feeds am and pm, bring in, rugs changed, groomed and put to bed.  
  • Half Day Care (One visit per day am or pm) - This package includes turn out or bring in, muck out, field skipping (maximum 30 minutes per horse), water, hay, feed, rugs changed, groomed.
  • Live Out Care (One or two visits per day) - This package includes check in field, field skipping (maximum 30 minutes per horse), water checked, hay, feed, and rugs changed as required.

 

Holiday Care Packages

Holiday care packages are based on the standard care package and are offered at a reduced rate if the period covered is 1 week or more (please contact me to discuss). Additional individual services will be charged at a discounted rate of 20% off when booking the holiday care package.

 Individual Services

  • Mucking Out - Removal of all soiled bedding from stable and where necessary add fresh bedding. The bed can be left up for the floor to dry or bedded down as required.
  • Skipping Out - Removal of droppings only.
  • Bedding Down - Laying an already mucked out bed, ready for a horse to be stabled on.
  • Feeding - Cleaning feed buckets, weighing/mixing feeds and feeding to horse/pony as instructed.
  • Hay/Hay Nets - Weighing hay and feeding to horse/pony as instructed.
  • Waters Buckets - Water buckets/drinkers emptied, cleaned and refilled.
  • Rug Changes - All requested rug changes to be made at times of visits.
  • Turning Out - Taking a horse/pony from a stable to field.
  • Bringing In - Taking horse/pony from field to stable.
  • Grooming - A full 20 minute groom to remove excess mud or dirt from coat, mane and tail. Hooves picked out and treated.
  • Field Checks - Checking horse/pony at grass, filling of field water buckets/troughs, hay and feeding of horse/pony and any rug changes required.
  • Field Waters - Checking and filling of all requested field troughs.
  • Field Skipping - Removal of droppings from requested fields (maximum 30 minutes per horse).
  • Tack cleaning - Cleaning and oiling of tack as requested.
  • Attendance for farrier/vet visits - Attendance for visits and handling of horse/pony.
  • Riding - Tacking horse up for riding in specified tack, riding horse/pony for exercise and untacking.
  • Lunging - Tacking up for lunging in specified equipment, lunging of horse/pony for exercise, untacking of horse/pony.
  • Long Reining - Tacking up for long reining in specified equipment, long reining of horse/pony for exercise, untacking of horse/pony.
  • Groundwork Session - Tacking up for groundwork session in specified equipment, ground work session and untacking of horse/pony.
